Low-fares war looms as airport's extended runway takes off
Gold Coast Airport's long-awaited runway extension has been officially open less than 24 hours but already is attracting big business, with Singapore low-cost airline Tiger Airways negotiating to make Coolangatta its new headquarters.
The airline said Australian passengers 'ain't seen nothing yet', promising fares as low as $49 from the Gold Coast to Sydney by the end of the year as they go head to head with low-cost domestic carriers Jetstar and Virgin.
